Wishing you the best in this endeavor! Building up a collective that contributes toward a similar goal has so many advantages. I hope to have more contributors to the Lunar Awards, but I would like to pay those writers for their efforts and I am trying to strike that balance between becoming a publisher and more of a society. Have you had similar discussions about paying writers, or is there more of an understanding that paid subscriptions would support the cooperative in a different way?

Thanks, Brian. Personally, I believe writers should be paid for their work. This is why we've held off on opening to submissions (for now) and are focused on publishing our own stories. I do have plans to commission artwork from illustrators and use the money from our paid readers to pay them. The cash that comes in is put back into the pot for future endeavors such as this.

We're young now, but I have ambitious plans to build something special using the combined strength of five creators. In my opinion, this is the future.

I appreciate the thoughtful question, Brian.

Right now, I'm also using the paid subscribers to help provide financial rewards for the award seasons, and I hope that will come from sponsors in the future. That way I could re-allocate the funds. If I find success in any of these areas, I'm happy to share it.

Please do. I love what Lunar Awards is doing. I might even submit a story for the new season.

Reading this made me envious in a good way, so envious isn't the best word, but only one I can think of. Made me think of showing my writing to my friends and them becoming fans of my characters and me a fan of theirs, and how things gradually fell apart and we're mostly split up now.

I like this trend of focusing more on how writing is fun. As someone with both morbid personal stories and stories that aren't as bleak that resonated with me. Never liked the people who insist that stories most people actually enjoy and willing read are inherently inferior either. There's something comical about people who will discuss the deeper meaning of children's lit yet categorically deny any nuance of YA fiction.

We agree on this. Nothing wrong with having a little fun telling your own unique stories. Seek out online communities, there are plenty out there. I recommend The Soaring Twenties Social Club run by Thomas Bevan. You can find his work on Substack and see if his mission aligns with yours. Cheers, William!

I've been aware of Soaring Twenties for over a year at this point, thought about joining it for a brief while and decided against it. I appreciate that you made the suggestion however.
