Agreed, he is (both in terms of the rabbit hole and for writing fiction). I like to think of Campbell, Jung and their successors' works as the 'guidelines' that if you stick to, you can never tell a bad story. You need only work on your 'counterpoint' or prose as a writer and you shall do well.
