I've often thought that what we need in the modern age, are trails of combat before a man or woman can become a representative, senator, governor, or president. Two people walk into the ring, one walks out. Only the strong should lead. All too long, we've had weak leaders. The last great warrior president was JFK.

All others since have not been in real battle.

Was listening to a history podcast the other day that noted how much more civilized trial by combat or war by champion actually is compared to modern total war, civilizational destruction and all. Retvrn, etc?

Indeed. This story plays around with that idea a bit. I wouldn't be surprised, given how fast the political landscape is deteriorating, if this became reality.
