The smoke from his stamped-out cigarette still danced in the air high above him. His eye occupied the rifle scope even after watching the target drop to the asphalt ground moments ago.

Tim exhaled and raised his head slowly. The hard earth supported his body and the gentle wind brushed against his face as he watched the evening sun retreat for the day. He enjoyed the view from up here; the moment's stillness and beautiful, majestic orange ball sent his mind into a meditative state of ease.

But these were not peaceful times.
