We return in this poetry column to a hymn composed a while back.
As I’ve touched on before, the Christian life is one of war. Christ came to wage a war, after all.
But most importantly of all, he came not just to wage a war but win it.
And win it he shall one day. That’s what this hymn, based on the marvelous words of Revelation 19, was written to remind you of.
We don’t do dooming round here.
If you want to sing along, Nettleton (Come Thou Fount) and Ebenezer (Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus) work rather well.
Christ will come and Christ will conquer. He will save the church, his bride. He will crush all those who wrong her, Christ the judge to war will ride. Come Lord Jesus, oh come quickly! Make your waiting people new. 'Till that day we all sing gladly: "You are faithful, You are true." Christ will come with heav'nly army, Clothed in white and bearing swords, Clothed in purity and glory, King of kings and Lord of lords. Christ will come in burning fury. Not a child in manger now. Not a child but judge and jury: He to whom the world must bow. Christ will come in his full glory, At the end of this dark night. At the end of this world's story, Truth advances to the fight.
Advance through this week my friends, and know the war is won!
AMEN! Love it, love it, love it. God Bless
